OM SRI SURABHYAI NAMAH! OM SRI GURAVE NAMAH!

ISKCON Montreal celebrated its ISKCON Golden Jubilee Event in a grand way from September 2nd to 5th earlier this month. Many devotees converged from far and wide, including special guests such as Gurudas prabhu and Malati devi dasi who were part of the original three couples that Srila Prabhupada sent from Montreal to London in 1968 to meet the Beetles. Also on hand were Suresvar prabhu and Sruti Rupa devi dasi, early Srila Prabhupada disciples who shared nectar anecdotes about the pioneering days of ISKCON.

The Gala Event was staged at the prestigious “Complex Desjardins” in downtown Montreal, a multi purpose posh complex that is regularly rented out for such major functions. Devotees presented a multitude of cultural and educational programs ranging from musical and dance performances on stage, lectures, seminars, and prasadam distribution intermixed with a wide variety of kiosks and displays.

Various organizations were also on hand covering such topics as Yoga, Ayurveda, Astrology and the Art of Living. Among the many colorful booths were the ones promoting the concepts and principles of sustainability, self-sufficiency and eco villages, a major theme often emphasized by the Founder Acarya of ISKCON Srila Prabhupada.

Devotees travelled all the way from Ottawa and Toronto to operate these booths and to answer the questions of inquisitive visitors. From Ottawa, Bhakta Mathieu represented the new farm project called “Harvest Lane”, from Ontario, Bhakta Fil (assisted by his wife Sukhayanti d.d.) represented his project called “Govardhan Farms” and from Quebec, Veda Vyasa prabhu (assisted by Shyamala Priya d.d.) represented the “Ferme Heritage Miner” in the province of Quebec.

Organizers of the Montreal temple, in particular Damodar Gopal prabhu, worked hard to prepare very informative and colorful posters and banners. The event attracted the participation of thousands of guests and devotees making it a most successful event.
